Pulau Selirong Forest Recreation Park is one of the amazing forest parks in Brunei Darussalam. It is situated in the outer southeast-ward reach of the Brunei Bay and covers a total area of 2,566 hectare of largely pristine mangrove forest. This Pulau Selirong Forest Recreation Park is accessible only by means of commercial motorised boats.

Entering this Pulau Selirong Forest Recreation Park is an experience itself. The meandering water channel in the Pulau Selirong Forest Recreation Park is lined with bakau trees – reputed to be the largest in the region – propped up by a labyrinth of stilt roots: or laced by patches of undisturbed nipah palms. The island also harbours a wide variety of interesting wildlife that includes unique mammals, colourful resident and migratory birds, rare reptiles and fishes and crustaceans. Pulau Selirong Recreational Park Pulau (Island) Selirong situated in the vicinity of Brunei Bay has an area of more than 2,200 hectares. The island is also covered with a rich variety of plants in all sorts of sizes including mangrove trees whose trunks are reputedly bigger than any found in neighbouring countries. The mangrove's wood is a valuable material in the building industry where it is used for piling especially in muddy soil. It is also burnt to make charcoal. The fauna in the island is even more exotic. It has among others the flying lemur. And if one is in luck, it is usual to see them soaring from tree to tree. The facilities in the island include among others two-kilometres of boardwalks, four berths, several platforms for briefing visitors, huts and observation towers. The journey to the island may take slightly more than an hour. However, due to the shallow nature of the water leading to the island, the rest of the short distance of travel will have to be made by smaller boats. Trips to the Island are best booked through one of the tour operators There are jetties in different parts of the island which provide mooring facilities for boats carrying passengers to the island. 45 minutes away from Muara by boat, Pulau Selirong is fondly known for its immaculate mangrove forest. The facilities on the island include a two-kilometre boardwalk, four berths and several platforms for briefing visitors, in addition to a number of huts and observation tower

Pulau Selirong is on the other side of Brunei ie Temburong, accessible only by boat... takes about 1 hr from BSB .... best to go with a tour operator as place is really isolated and need a guide.... primarily mangroves and palms, and proboscis monkeys plus other wildlife... need minimum 4 hrs, plus insects repellents. Alternative is Damuan River tour, adjacent to palace and along Brunei river...... Pulau Selirong

Pulau Selirong merupakan pulau yang jauh di hujung Brunei. Perjalanan kami mengambil masa 20 minit dari Pulau Keingaran menuju ke Pulau Selirong. Pulau Selirong ini terkenal dengan pokok-pokok bakau dan juga habitat bagi binatang liar seperti bangkatan. Ikan sumpit-sumpit juga terdapat di kawasan ini. Akan tetapi Pulau Selirong terletak di bawah jagaan pihak atasan, dan kerana itulah juga pulau ini dilarang untuk sesiapa memasukinya dan hanya memerlukan kebenaran yang tertentu sahaja.

When Visiting Pulau Selirong

So last saturday! 16/3/2012 I WENT TO PULAU SELIRONG! with some of the teacher and student from my school! SMSAB! we are represent from AR-RIZQ company (i'm not sure if that spells right) it's one of our CCA or school activity. 

sooooo we have to arrived at Waterfront Bandar before 8 oclock in the morning!  which is erghhh. why all activity should be in the morning?! so back to the story, we all have to start moving to pulau selirong around 815 using a big boat, NOT HUGE! but big, like elephant big, that enough for less than 30 people. sooo it takes around one hour to arrived there but make it one hour and the half cause we are stuck for a while cause beli minyak dulu and because of "aing tuhur" yeah that what people keep saying that time. so sampai saja disana, we go to the forest ranger supaya dapat tell us something about that place and also keeping us safe from any animal sekirannya ada but in that time nadalah, thank god. then after atu kami pun jalan, naik boat ketempat yang people selalu melawat. guess what distracting me in the boat? THE FOREST RANGER GUN! it was m-16 i guess.

IT WAS DAMN COOL! LIKE FREAKING EPIC + POWER RANGER EPIC! macam waaah cematu panya gun in real life selalunya liat arah pc saja, COD GAMER! eh eh, then after atu kami pun turun arah this place, we walked on the jambatan around half an hour while gambar gambar the beauty of nature and we expect to see some animal but nada lah time atu, maybe pasal kami riuh rendah atu jua. 

BUT WE HAVE FUN! and i talked to the forest ranger personally, katanya if nada urang banyak ni Orang Utan and other animal yang siuk diliat. but BADLUCK. satu ekor beruk pun aku tak tengok. so i just take a picture of trees, plant and stuff cause i'm in charge of photography when im with the company. but make sure if everyone is going there, bring a drink cause disana you will get dehydrated cause of perjalanan jauh and you will sweat like a pig. so after that, kami pun balik but before that kami hantar the forest ranger dulu tempat kami ambil diorang tadi and thanks them cause guide us and lead us when disana. then time balik, we also round kampung air sekajap and saw the villager and stuff. and yeah i'm gonna post the picture soon, hopefully! cause all the camera and memory card are not with me! sooo thats all! 

YOU GUYS HAVE TO GO THERE! IF YOU LOVE NATURE! CAUSE IT WAS INTERESTING PLACE TO SIGHT SEEING AND ALSO BURN YOUR CALORIES HEUHEUHEUHEU.

17 Disember 2011, operasi bermula pukul 7 malam. Capt Cikgu Rosli menjadi guide kali ini dengan menggunakan bot beliau dan terus bermalam di pulau Selirong. beberapa member juga turut menyertai jelajah pulau selirong kali ini. antara nya, aku, rizam, ayai, jugol, daus, ejatt dan yang lain nya. pancing casting juga tidak di lupa kan selain menggunakan kaedah berumpan kan udang hidup, kerikan dan anjun. tapi malang nya cubaan di pulau selirong tidak berjaya. hanya beberapa strike saja.

pukul 5.45 pagi. selepas menghabis kan sarapan. operasi pun terus di jalan kan dan menuju ke spot berikut nya, ke kapal karam. yang di percayai antara spot yang berpotensi. setiba sampai, pancing pun terus di beri umpan dan beberapa member sibuk menghayun kan lure masing masing. nasib baik kali ini, umpan daus di telan habis oleh GT seberat 2kg. dan di turuti jua umapn si rizam berjaya menaikkan seekor bebarahan. walau dalam keadaan mabuk. masih jua semangat kan memancing.

tahniah daus, walaupun kondem dah inda betidur dan mabuk. hehe. naik jua GT. first lesen ni dan tahniah jua kepada rizam. wa caya lu bro. dan yang inda belurih atu, rilek saja. lauk alum mari. haha. antara yang di perolehi menggunakan anjun kali ini.

Yesterday, my coursemates and I along with Dr. Irene and her husband went on a trip to Pulau Selirong (or Mosquito Island). After only three hours of sleep and sahur, headed straight to UBD to meet up with my friends and off we went to Serasa Beach. After some chaos (some got lost) took a half an hour boat trip to the island, east of the Brunei Bay. This was my first time there after listening to many lectures about eco-tourism and wildlife there by my lecturers so I was excited to go here.

Unfortunately, we didn't have Dr. Charles, one of my Biology lecturers whose expertise is on small mammals and birds, with us to help identify the different calls of birds. Also, unfortunate we didn't get to see snakes and most importantly, the Orang Belanda, or the proboscis monkey. Perhaps we could have, had we gone earlier.

Go visit any local tourism agent if you're interested on a trip to Pulau Selirong. Don't forget to wear appropriate clothes and footwear, bring a bottle of water and a lot of patience. All it takes, is a little bit of silence and you will be able to see wildlife roaming around one of the best mangroves of the world.

Ecotourism Generated at Pulau Selirong Forest Recreational Park

The heart of HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the PMO has been attracted by the pristine mangrove forest at the Pulau Selirong Forest Recreational Park, after his consent to visit the park on June 26.

Mangrove species are dominating the park. The park is one of the upscale aquatic ecosystem places in the country, which accommodates one of the preferred ecotourism places after Ulu Temburong National Park for local and overseas lovers of nature.

Rhizophora, micronata is the species that commonly found in the park. Due to its bark's natural appearance, it is commonly known as 'Bakau Minyak.

Since January 2000, more than 2,150 visitors have been attracted by the park, according to the official records of the Forestry Department, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

At present, the park has state-of-the-art facilities and in order to give more insight into the development of the rare marine ecosystem to nature lovers, additional wooden walkways constructed within the pristine.

It is expected that more visitors come and enjoy the captivating mangrove forest conditions..

Boat is the only means to reach the site, however, it is only a 30 minutes ride from the city. Comprising mangrove species, the Selirong Island has spread over approximately 2,000 hectares.

Since the old days, the region used to be a rich source of food and construction materials including poles.

From dawn-to-dark, one can witness small-scale fishing activities around the region. Furthermore, one can also have the chance to see the proboscis monkey on the island with the flying fox.
