Luagan Lalak Forest Recreation Park

Luagan Lalak Forest Recreation Park

Drive to the south eastern part of Brunei’s beautiful interior and stop by Tutong town.
Visit the “Luagan lalak” a serene peaceful natural alluvial fresh water swamp
(which looks like a lake). At Labi, you can see vast rice field, green orange farm,
papaya farm and many other local fruit trees.

Upon arrival at Labi, we will visit a tribal longhouse called “Rumah Panjang”.
It belongs to a tribe called “Iban” which was once known as the fierce
head hunter of Borneo. At the longhouse, learn about their lifestyle and
handicraft that they made.

25 kilometres from Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park is
Luagan Lalak Forest Recreation Park.  Location at Labi Belait District.
It covers an area of about 270 hectares, within the Labi Hills Forest Reserve.

How to get hereDrive all the way to Sungai Liang and then take
the left turn towards Labi
and you are on the Labi Road.
The park is 25km up Labi Road.
This Luagan Lalak Forest Recreation Park features an alluvial
freshwater swamp or ‘empran’. In drier months, the water level usually
recedes drastically, and the valley is covered by a field of sedges,
mainly Lepironia species. This occurrence is very rare in the country,
or for that matter, in the whole island of Borneo.

This Luagan Lalak Forest Recreation Park has been built with amenities
for the easy use of visitors.  Shelters, footpaths and a wooden bridge of
200 meters spans across the lake can be seen. Further development
and additional facilities are being proposed by the Forestry Department
under the Ninth National Development Plan.

Facilities
  • Huts
  • BBQ pits
  • Public toilets
  • Wooden walkway
